Statement Of Belief

We believe in the divine inspiration and infallibility of the Bible. As such, every belief enshrined in the Bible or scriptures is upheld by all who are associated with us:

“And that from a child thou hast known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:14-16

Based on the infallibility of the word of God, we derive the following core beliefs (though not exhaustive):

GOD: we believe that no one can know the totality of His being but can only progress in the knowledge of Him. This knowledge is revealed in the person of Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit to whoever He wills.

GODHEAD: we believe there is nothing impossible for God to do. He can do things that beat the imaginations of men but can only be grasped through faith in His Word. God is one, but in His wisdom, He chose to reveal Himself in three different ways/persons as though He is separate and distinct from Himself in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for His redemptive purpose (Matthew 28:19).

Others are free to argue about who God is, but to us, a practical life in consonance with the scriptures is proof of one’s knowledge and understanding of God. Obedience to the following clear definitions of God without any ambiguity is emphasised:

God is one: Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? James 2:19-20. If you believe God is one, how do you revere Him? And do you practically live in obedience to Him?

God is love:Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him…. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” 1 John 4:7-9, 16. If we claim to know God to be love, then we ought to love one another.

God is Spirit: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” John 4:24. We must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

God is Light: “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” 1 John 1:5-7. If we know Him to be light, we must also walk in the light.

God is a consuming Fire: “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:28-29. He is a God who judges. Therefore, reverence is key.

JESUS CHRIST: He is both the Son of God and the Son of man. He was born of the Virgin Mary (Galatians 4:4) through the instrumentality of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35; John 1:14, 3:16). He is the only begotten of the Father, and Joseph was His adoptive father.

Jesus is the one true God and eternal life (1 John 5:20), and Great God (Titus 2:13). He was God manifest in the Flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). Jesus was the embodiment of the Godhead (Colossians 1:19, 2:9), as God was in Him reconciling the world to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:19).

Jesus is the only name given unto us by which all men can be saved (Acts 4:12; John 3:16; Luke 3:22). Faith in Jesus Christ alone (Romans 5:1) and obedience to Matthew 28:19-20 and Acts 2:38 is God’s approved formula for our salvation. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died and rose from the dead according to the gospel (2 Timothy 2:8) and gives us the hope of a future resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:15-52).

HOLY SPIRIT: He is the Spirit of God, and of Christ Jesus and is part of the Godhead. He is God Himself, since God is a Spirit (Romans 8:9) and the seal for our redemption (Ephesians 1:13).

SIN: Sin entered the world through the disobedience of man (Romans 5:12, 19, 3:23). Due to sin, man had to face the punishment of death based on God’s justice. Through His own mercy and grace, He provided a way of redemption for mankind.

REPENTANCE: Repentance from dead works and faith towards God are what we believe in. The prophets of old preached it, as did Jesus and the Apostles, and so do we. This is the second step in the salvation sequence after faith in Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:2, 4:17, Acts 2:38).

WATER BAPTISM: We believe in the baptism of water by immersion (Matthew 28:19), which was practiced by the apostles (Acts 2:38). The name Jesus Christ is the redemptive name of God (Colossians 2:9). The name Jesus Christ (in a sense) is either used passively or actively (Acts 8:16, 10:48, 19:5, 22:16, 1 Corinthians 1:13-15).

BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: Christ promised all those who believe in Him that, they will receive the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:28, John 7:27-39, Acts 1:5, Acts 2:38). This was fulfilled in the life of the disciples (Acts 2:3-4, 10:46, 19:6). The scriptural evidences of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer are as follows: the discretion of the Holy Spirit to grant a believer utterance in other tongues (Acts 2:4, 10:46), the manifestation of prophecy together with tongues (Acts 19:6), the manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), the manifestation of at least one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:7) for the profiting of the body of Christ.

ETERNAL LIFE:  John makes it very clear that the main purpose for which we were saved, is to possess eternal life (John 3:15-16). This is the very life of God found in Christ (1 John 5:11), who Himself is eternal life (1 John 5:20). We believe God wants us to live as Christ did. If we do, we automatically qualify for heaven.

CHURCH OF CHRIST: The church of Christ does not refer to a physical structure, but to those who are bought by the blood of Jesus Christ. The church is first the individual, a group of believers in a particular place, and the body of believers worldwide (Matthew 16:18, 1 Cor 11:18).

GRACE: The redemption of man is purely based on the grace of God (Galatians 5:4, Ephesians 2:8,). This grace is the dividing line between us and the people of the world (Titus 2:11-14).

FAITH: The sinner can only embrace the grace of God by faith in Jesus Christ (Galatians 3:9-14).

LOVE: We believe in the love of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit (Mark 12:30), love among and for brethren (John 13:34-35), and love for our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

HOPE: We believe in the hope of a future appearance of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13), and resurrection (Romans 8:17-18) which brings about joy no matter what we go through in this world (1 Corinthians 15:12-19).

PROGRESSIVE REVELATION OF CHRIST IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER:

We believe and encourage believers to always press on to perfection through a progressive knowledge of Christ. We are not supposed to plateau in our knowledge of Christ (Philippians 3:10-15).

We emphasize practical truth which puts a demand and responsibility on us to translate our knowledge of God into practicality. The life of Christ and the doctrine of the apostles is our canon.
